A YOUNG actor who fulfilled his dream to perform in the West End is now hoping to become a world dancing champion.

After winning a scholarship in London, Harrison Vaughan was cast as Tommy in Roald Dahl’s inspired Matilda The Musical when he was only 11.

The Widnes schoolboy made such an impact, he was chosen to star as the chubby cake-eating Bruce Bogtrotter.

After playing the lead role for 18 months, he came home and soared to success in another of his passions, dancing.

The 13-year-old became the English Modern Champion in November.

He has now qualified for the Dance World Cup 2017 after being one of only three children in the UK to be selected to represent England.

His mum, Cheryl, 44, of Upton Grange, said: “This is a huge achievement and a great honour. We are so proud of him.”

Harrison will be competing with 12,000 children from 47 countries in Offenburgh, Germany in June.

He has qualified to perform a solo, duet and trio and spends around 25 hours a week practising his intricate routines.

“Harrison is very passionate about dancing, singing and acting,” said Cheryl, who saw him perform in Matilda at least 20 times.

His dad Danny, 44, and brother Brandon, 18, are also thrilled with his success.

“I’d have watched him every day if I could,” said Cheryl.

“He worked really hard. I think it was his professionalism, the way he took on board any corrections he received in feedback, that won him the part of Bruce.”

Harrison, who is now home schooled, is no stranger to the stage.

He beat hundreds of entrants from across the UK to win the musical solo category of UK Festival 4 Stars when he was nine.

The schoolboy appeared in Peter Pan at the Liverpool Empire and Oliver Twist at The Brindley.

He also filmed a role with Hollywood actor Cillian Murphy as a young gypsy boy in the BBC series Peaky Blinders and starred in another series of the same show.

“He first showed a love of performing when he was three,” added Cheryl. “He started dance lessons when he was seven and absolutely loved it.

“He knuckles down and practices all the time when he is at home.

“Working in London, he has seen how hard it is but that’s what he wants to do.

“He is so passionate, he wants to carry on.”
