JUBILANT Widnes dancers are celebrating after being named grand champions at a national competition.

Eclipse Street Dance Cheer scooped three first, three second and two third places at the Incredibly Cool Events in Stoke.

Head coach and choreographer Emma Swain said: “I couldn’t be more proud.

“It means the world to see children from our home town show their talents to teams from all over the country.”

The dancers aged four to 16 performed a range of pom, contemporary, street and hip hop routines in five age categories.

From Hairspray to cops and robbers, party rockers to Kung Fu fighters, the various teams showcased their diverse talent and creativity.

The dancers are now preparing for the UK Cheerleading Association competition in May.

“Our aim is to come away with more trophies as well as having a fantastic time,” added Emma.

“In July we are also taking part in the ice extravaganza weekend of competitions in Pontins.”

The dancers are cheerleaders for Halton Spartans American football team and Widnes Wild ice hockey team.

The club also has boys’ street squads, mixed teams and adult classes.
