THE search is on to find people willing to help lonely and vulnerable people in Runcorn and Widnes?

Halton Council is looking for volunteers who could do some driving, offer IT help or simply have a chat over a cup of tea.

Giving up a little time could brighten up someone’s day.

Sure Start to Later Life is holding its first volunteer open day on Monday, Apruil 3, from 1pmt to 4pm, at Grangeway Community Centre in Runcorn.

All training is provide and there is a full induction programme.

Previous volunteers have moved onto employment, both within the council and externally, so it can be a great stepping stone.

Halton Cllr Marie Wright, board member for health and wellbeing, said: "Halton's volunteer service has been running for six years and is thriving.

“However, we always need more people to join the team to offer support to our lonely and vulnerable people.

"Even if it's only a few hours a month they can spare, there is always someone who would benefit from a chat over a cup of tea.”

Current volunteers will be at the open day to share their experiences.

Information will be available on the variety of roles available and there will be a chance to talk to some people who are supported through the project.

"They can talk to people about how their volunteer supports them and the positive effect this has on their life,” said Cllr Wright.

“If this event goes well, we hope to run it again in the future."

Refreshments will be provided.
