RUNCORN songstress Nadine McGhee says she feels ‘overwhelmed’ after winning through to the live shows of ITV’s talent show The Voice on Saturday.

The 19-year-old call centre worker competed in the battle rounds against the daughter of model turned actress Linda Lusardi and actor Sam Kane.

Competitor Lucy Kane hailed Nadine ‘brilliant’ before they went head to head as a duet performing Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper as part of Team Tom Jones.

Before choosing Nadine as one of his final seven singers, Tom told the girls: “You were a little nervous, the both of you, but that’s understandable because it’s a big show and a big night.

“Nadine has just got this very honest, beautiful tone and a lot of passion in the way you sing.

“Whichever way I go I just want you to know you did a wonderful job and that’s the truth.”

Nadine, from Windmill Hill, said: “To be honest I didn’t think it was going to happen. I’m a bit overwhelmed.

“I was really nervous.”

The teenager, who works for 02 at the Capita centre in Preston Brook, appeared live on ITV’s This Morning today.

Guitarist Nadine, who has been singing in pubs and clubs since she was 14, is still getting used to being spotted in the street.

“When I go shopping or to McDonald’s people look at me and recognise me,” she said.

“Getting support from people who don’t know me is amazing.”

Tom Jones hailed Nadine ‘a soaring songbird’ after she performed an emotional rendition of Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down in the blind auditions.

The former St Berteline’s CE Primary School pupil is now rehearsing for the knockout stage on Sunday televised live for the first time.

“I am terrified,” she said. “It is the opportunity of a lifetime, a dream come true.

“Tom is the mentor I wanted. He has already helped me a lot and introduced me to new songs.

“We are working up to the live shows now. I am scared. I just need to get one the three places on his team.”

The top prize, a record contract with music giants Polydor Records could transform her life.

“I’m not going to lie, I’m not thinking that far ahead but it means the world to me.”
