A MAN was repeatedly kicked and punched after an incident on a bus in Widnes.

The victim sustained serious injuries in the assault and was taken to Whiston Hospital for treatment.

The 51-year-old man was travelling on a bus from Runcorn when he was involved in a verbal altercation with three men at around 8.30pm on Friday, February 10.

All four men were asked to leave the bus at the bus stop outside Morrisons on Greenoaks Way, Widnes.

Once off the bus, one of the men is believed to have pushed the victim to the floor.

When he tried to get back up the man punched him, causing him to fall back on the floor where he was then repeatedly kicked.

The victim is now recovering at home but has been left traumatised.

All three men are described as white, of average build and in their early 20s.

Detective Constable Thomas Lucas said: “We are currently carrying out a number of enquiries in a bid to trace those involved.

“At this stage, this appears to be an isolated incident and our investigation is continuing.

“The victim was seriously injured and has been left extremely shaken by his ordeal. We are doing all we can to ensure those responsible and traced and dealt with.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area at the time and has witnessed what happened, or has any information which could assist with our enquiries to come forward.”
