A ROBBER punched a woman in the stomach in the street in a terrifying ordeal.

The 49-year-old mum was walking along Sycamore Road in Runcorn with her 11-year-old daughter when the incident happened.

The woman suspected someone was following her as she approached the garages between Sycamore Avenue and Grangeway and told her daughter to run ahead.

A man then punched her in the stomach and demanded money.

He grabbed her shopping bag and when he realised there was no money, he made off.

The robbery happened between 6pm and 6.15pm on Sunday, January 15.

The man is described as white with a local accent. He was wearing black clothing and headwear with a peak on his hood.

DC Katie Wardle said: “Thankfully this type of incident is rare however it has left the victim extremely shaken.

“She was approached by several members of the public shortly afterwards who came to her aid and I am appealing to them to contact me directly. I am also appealing to the local community for information.”
