A MAN has died in a fatal crash involving three cars in Widnes.

The driver, believed to be from Warrington, was killed in a road collision yesterday afternoon after a silver Vauxhall Vectra came off the A562 Speke Road Liverpool bound carriageway, close to the junction of the Knowsley Expressway.

The 48-year-old man sadly died at the scene.

A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision involving three cars with one person trapped.

“The crew stabilised one of the vehicles which was in a ditch as a precaution and assisted paramedics with first aid.”

Paramedics attended the accident scene on Everite Road in Widnes shortly before 4.30pm and took a six-year-old boy, who was a passenger in a car, to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, as a precaution.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance NHS Trust said: “A male patient approximately six-years-old was taken to Alder Hey as a major trauma patient.”

The fatal collision happened at 4.35pm and caused a long tailback of traffic.

Next of kin are being informed and a formal ID is due to take place today.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
