LAUGHTER and fun filled Victoria Park on Sunday as a sea of red runners brought Christmas to life.

Around 200 volunteers joined this year’s Santa Dash, hoping to raise more than £5,000 for Halton Haven Hospice.

After five years running over the Runcorn Widnes bridge, the event moved to the park last year.

There was a carnival atmosphere as Halton Council’s Christmas fair opened after the race.

Panto stars from Cinderella staged taster performances and there was a Santa’s grotto, donkey rides and a carol service.

But it was the mums, dads, nans, grandads and children who stole the show trekking four kilometres round the park.

Some santas even sported fancy dress while others had their faces painted.

Parents pushing prams and runners carrying dogs also joined in the fun run.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Halton Cllr Ged Philbin and Ros Wong greeted all the entrants at the final tape with a medal.

Ciaran Clotworthy, hospice fundraiser and organiser of the Santa Dash, said: “Thank you so much to all the wonderful Santas who took part.

“It was another fantastic event and we were delighted to see the levels of support there are for the hospice from the people of Halton.

“We’re hoping to raise around £5,000 and it’s only possible because of the people who take part.

“We’re so grateful to our supporters and can’t wait to see everyone again next year.”
