CON artists are reportedly in operation in Runcorn after an elderly resident was targeted over alarm system payments.

The victim said that the caller introduced himself as a worker from Lifeline and that his monthly payment is due,

He then revealed that he was coming round to collect the money from the victim.

Luckily, the man decided to contact Lifeline about the call and they confirmed that this was not the case.

Halton Borough Council’s executive board member for Trading Standards Cllr Dave Cargill said: “If you receive any calls offering to fix a problem that you didn’t know you had, or somebody claiming that they are from your bank or an official organisation, don’t give the caller any details.”

The council has advised people who receive a scam call to tell the caller that they need to contact the relevant company to check if the phone call is genuine and to not use any numbers given to them.

To report an incident call 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775.
