A CRONTON Sixth Form College scholarship student is on the right track after being named as young sportsperson on the year at the Halton Sports Awards 2016.

At the annual sporting celebration held at Select Security Stadium, Robyn Cosgrove was recognised for her outstanding achievements in table tennis and for the support and training she provides to younger children in the sport.

The former Wade Deacon High School student said: “It all started when coaches from Halton Table Tennis Club came into my primary school and invited anyone who was interested to have a go at the club.

"I used to play tennis so I thought it was something new to try.

"I found I really enjoyed it and was soon training four times a week and competing for the club.”

Robyn, who hopes to Team GB in the 2028 Olympics, was nominated for the award by Karen Tonge, club leader at Halton Table Tennis Club.

The news of her nomination came as a surprise to Robyn, who is studying PE at A-level at Cronton Sixth Form.

She said: “The first I heard about the award was when I received an email inviting me to the awards dinner.

“I didn’t have a clue about it before then but I was delighted that Karen had put me forward.

"I was really nervous leading up to the event as I wasn’t sure who else had been nominated or what I would have to say.

"It was an even bigger shock when I won – my mum and dad were delighted.”
