CRONTON sixth formers hosted the Merseyside qualifying round of the Debating Matters national debating competition.
Four students competed alongside other colleges to debate on a range of controversial topics including artificial intelligence, political parties and medical data sharing.
Ethan Bartlett, Kieran Halford, Dominic Yearsley and Danielle Ellis, all 17 and studying A Levels, impressed judges with their educated responses and arguments.
Ethan, named best performing student, said: “The competition is going to feed into my love of debating and discussing current political issues.”
Danielle Ellis said: “I love being able to process my own ideas and build upon that of others.”
Cronton team competed against Wirral Grammar School for Girls and Withington Girls’ School at the event.
Although they didn’t win, judges said they ‘performed extremely well’.
History tutor Luke MacMahon, head of the Prestigious Universities Programme, said: “The quality of debating was outstanding.
“The students responded well to the pressure and remained level headed throughout. They are a credit to the college.”
