AN elderly resident was targeted by an aggressive con man posing as a Shopmobility salesman.

The victim was left feeling intimidated after the incident on Sutton Park on Thursday evening.

Halton Council is warning people to be on their guard.

The victim said the salesman had a Millercare mobility aids brochure which he was using as a sales aid.

The salesman was aggressive in his sales approach.

Shopmobility and Millercare Limited have confirmed the man is not associated with either organisation and that they do not cold call people in this manner.

Halton Cllr Dave Cargill, board member for Trading Standards, said: "Halton’s Trading Standards officers work hard to bring to justice rogue traders.

“Residents can now get a free ‘no cold calling card’ and letterbox sticker from any Halton Direct Link.

“Traders who call when these are displayed are committing an offence and this will help Trading Standards to take the appropriate enforcement action against the rogue traders.”

Anyone caught out by a scam is urged to contact Halton Council’s specialist officers on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775.
