THE mangled wreck of a car crushed in a crash is being used to warn motorists to take more care.

Cheshire firefighters say 60 per cent of all traffic fatalities occur on country roads.

The THINK! campaign runs for five weeks from Friday and warns drivers of the dangers.

Station Manager Colin Heyes, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s road safety manager, said, “People are often shocked to learn that the number of people killed on country roads is actually 11 times higher than on a motorway.

“When faced with a long, seemingly empty, rural road, drivers can be tempted to drive fast, assuming the road is ahead is clear when actually it’s highly likely that there is an unseen hazard ahead.

“Braking before the bend will give drivers the time they need to react and stay in control.”

The campaign will target 25-34 year olds highlighting the hazards of sharp bends, blind bends and unexpected hazards.
