FIVE Runcorn children have won a competition to help reduce accidents in Castlefields.

Cheshire Police joined forces with Halton Council to run road safety training sessions at five primary schools on the estate.

Posters designed by five pupils were chosen from more than 350 entries.

The winning posters by Elliot Raymond Yensen (St Augustine’s) Amelia Jones (Bridgewater Park) Alisha Mills (The Brow) Elliott Bromley (St Mary’s) and Rose Clarke (Astmoor) will now be printed and displayed in schools.

PC Zoe Bowden from Runcorn Local Policing Unit said: “The enthusiasm shown by all of the children during the training was outstanding and I hope that it will make a real difference in the community.”

The winners will also get the opportunity to make history and be among the first people to walk across the new Mersey Gateway bridge when it opens.

The competition was sponsored by Plus Dane Housing, Liverpool Housing Trust, Halton Council and Mersey Gateway to help educate residents.
