ROCKET Man is set to blast out over the River Mersey as the 2016 firework display will be synchronised to a special Elton John soundtrack.

November 5 will be More Than Alright as the sky lights up like a Candle In The Wind.

Halton Council is expecting the biggest ever crowd of spectators as they celebrate the international music legend’s live concert in Widnes next year.

The iconic pop star will be on stage at Select Security Stadium on Sunday, June 18 at the home of Widnes Vikings.

A dramatic opening will launch the free fireworks show at 7.30pm, followed by a collection of his famous tracks.

A spectacular end is promises to make it a night to remember.

Live entertainment starts at 6pm on both Mersey Road in Runcorn and St Mary’s Road in West Bank, Widnes.

Schoolgirl singing star Beau Dermott who wowed the country in the final of ITV’s Britain’s will entertain spectators.

The 12-year-old from Cronton, who has been invited to perform in America, has won praise for her voice from celebrities all over the world.

Halton Cllr Eddie Jones, board member for events, said: "The annual fireworks display is an excellent opportunity to bring the entire borough together and celebrate under its most iconic landmark while providing a safe environment to enjoy the evening and reduce anti-social behaviour and other potential hazards."

The Brindley theatre will be joining the celebrations with viewing from the café terrace, with free entertainment throughout the evening.

Panto star Sonia will launch the first rockets.

Parking is limited and road closures and restrictions will be in place so people are advised to arrive in plenty of time.
