A RUNCORN dad who helps his daughters deliver The World has been hailed a hero.

For the past six years, night shift worker Dave Galligan has ensured readers on Grangeway and Grangemoor receive their paper every week.

And he always goes the extra mile to look after his neighbours.

The 49-year-old pushes a trolley with 450 papers around the streets as his daughters Heath schoolgirls Lauren, 15, and Leah, 11, push them through letterboxes.

One Thursday he spotted a delivery van drive off with the door open and some parcels fell out, unbeknown to the driver.

Angela Maguire, 33, from Ditton, who works with Dave at DHL in Jaguar Landrover in Liverpool, said: “Dave, being the honest hardworking man he is, gathered up these parcels and delivered them.

“At one property nobody was at home so he posted a note to the occupiers telling them where the parcel was hidden.”

A few weeks ago, Dave found two dogs that had escaped.

“Rather than letting them go to the dogs’ home, he found their owner and reunited them with their lost family and saved two young children a lifetime of heartache,” added Angela.

“Dave is known to all the locals he delivers his papers to and has become a friend to many.

“Some things in life money can’t buy and Dave is one of them. He’s a superstar to man. To us he’s Runcorn’s version of a godsend.”

Shy Dave, of Grangemoor, shunned the limelight when asked about his good deeds.

“I just pull a trolley for the girls,” he said.

“I work nights so it’s the only exercise I get. It’s pocket money for the girls. I’d love to see them take the praise.”

The shift manager said he was happy to deliver parcels that fell out of a van and reunite lost dogs.

“It’s good fun delivering the papers,” added Dave. “Come rain, sleet or snow I will keep on doing it so long as the girls want to carry on.”
