A FIDDLERS Ferry supervisor on trial for murder said he was ‘still recovering’ from a car accident.

Steven Cotterill, of Brinton Close, Widnes, told Chester Crown Court that he broke his back in 2001 and was off work for six months.

The 39-year-old said he had to wear a spinal brace and takes 100 strong painkillers every month.

His weight soared to 20 stone and he could no longer take part in active sport.

He used to play football, cricket and tennis.

The shift worker employed by Hargreaves Industrial started driving tractors and machines and became a supervisor seven years ago.

He said his job is very ‘hands on’ and still involves ‘lots of driving’.

At home he said he has to use a ‘litter picker’ because he is unable to bend down.

“I use it to pick things up,” he said.
