A NEW building is finally being constructed for a Runcorn school after 10 years of delays and setbacks.
Groundwork began at The Heath School during the summer.
Halton MP Derek Twigg joined head girl Lauren Galligan for an official turf cutting ceremony.
Heath principal Jamie Jardine said: “This is a very exciting development for The Heath School.
“It has been a long journey to get to this stage but we are looking forward to pressing ahead now and making sure that the environment for our students matches the outstanding teaching and learning which takes place here every day.”
The new design will see state-of-the-art classrooms all with climate control, a new sports and community centre, activity hall, dance and drama studios and a café.
New tennis courts, multi use games areas, an amphitheatre and outdoor dining area will also be created.
The 21st century school will have a new sixth form centre, specialist laboratories and workshops and classrooms.
