A NEW ‘fun palace’ event is being launched at Halton’s libraries.

People will be able to try lots of different things which could inspire a new hobby or interest.

The idea is part of a free, nationwide celebration of community to bring people together with arts and science.

Theatre director Joan Littlewood and architect Cedric Price launched the first fun palaces two years ago.

Widnes and Halton Lea Libraries will be hosting a variety of events on Saturday, October 1 from 10am to 2.30pm.

Sci-Tech Daresbury, Friends of Catalyst Museum, Palacefields Ukelele Group, Mersey Waves Choir, craftsmen and women will be taking part.

Halton Cllr Phil Harris, board member for libraries, said: “Fun palaces create events that bring together arts and sciences but above all, people to work together, create together and have fun together.

“In doing so they build our own communities from the grassroots up.

“There will be a host of activities there.”

Details are still being finalised.
