RUNCORN hopes to be put on the map in the Great British High Street competition.

Runcorn Town Team and Halton Council have entered the town for this prestigious prize.

Now they need your support.

Halton Cllr Pauline Sinnott, chairman of the town team, said: "Get tweeting and say why you think Runcorn should win.

“This is a great opportunity for some promotion for Runcorn High Street.”

The winners of each category will receive £1000 and the overall winner gets £10,000 plus dedicated support and mentoring from industry experts which could range from one to one coaching to advice on digital marketing.

The top three shortlisted in each category will be announced next month.

They will then go through to a public online vote and be visited by the Future High Streets Forum judging panel made up of industry leaders from across retail, property and business.

Halton Cllr Ron Hignett, board member for the physical environment, said: "Tell us what you love about Runcorn. If enough people do it we are in with a chance."

The public can support Runcorn on twitter by following @TheGBHighSt or using the hashtag #GBHighSt.

Now in its third year, the competition celebrates efforts to revive, adapt and diversify the nation’s high streets and is an opportunity for councils, businesses, community groups and volunteers to learn from the very best.
