AN opticians in Runcorn is marking national eye health week- which starts on Monday - by raising vital funds in support of Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

A new partnership will see Specsavers team supporting the charity and increasing awareness of the importance of regular eye tests.

Staff and RNIB volunteers will invite customers to donate money from repairs and adjustments, glasses cleaning and children’s balloons, The store will make a £1 donation from every accessory sale during the week.

Runcorn Specsavers store director Chris Graham said: ‘It’s astonishing that so many people are needlessly living with or at risk of sight loss in the UK today.

“Half of all sight loss cases are preventable – and a simple eye test can be the first step in prevention.

“Our mission with RNIB is to transform the nation’s eye health through education, awareness and action.

“We want to reverse these worrying eye health trends that are putting unnecessary pressure on the health service and placing a massive burden on the public purse.”

The Widnes store is accepting donations from customers all week.

Students from Ashley High School on Cawfield Avenue will be collecting unwanted glasses from anyone wishing to support the campaign.
