A WOMAN lost consciousness and has sustained 'serious facial injuries' after a stranger knocked on her door and assaulted her.

Cheshire Police today appealed for anyone with any information regarding the incident to come forward.

The 52-year-old woman was greeted by an unknown man when she answered the door of her home on De Lacy Row, Castlefields, Runcorn, at around 11.30am on Monday, August 22.

He hit her in the face, causing her to fall to the floor and lose consciousness.

After waking up the victim contacted the emergency services and was taken to Warrington Hospital.

Inspector Clare Coleman said: “This was an extremely serious incident and we are keen to trace the person responsible so he can be brought to justice.

“We are currently carrying out a number of enquiries and as part of the investigation I am keen to speak to anyone who was in the De Lacy Row area around the time of the incident and believes they may have seen something suspicious.

“As a result of this incident the victim sustained serious facial injuries and was left extremely shaken.

"She is currently receiving specialist support from our officers."

The victim is currently recovering at a friend’s address having been released from hospital.
