Celebrations are under way at Wade Deacon High School in Widnes after the results were revealed following a nervous wait for students.

There were plenty of cheers and tears after it was revealed that every student gained at least five GCSE qualifications while more than half achieved an A* or A grades in at least one subject.

A total of 47 per cent of students achieved the English Baccalaureate standard which requires top grades in English, maths, science, humanities and foreign languages.

In the core subjects, 73 per cent of students achieved two A* to C grades in science, 80 per cent in maths and 86 per cent in English.

Isabel Ainsworth, Jake Boughey, Joseph Duckett, Ellie Greaves, Jasmin Johnson, Alexander Jones, Connor Jones, Beth Lindop, Eleanor Oulton, Maegen Pratt, and Ella Riley were all praised for their hard work after securing A* to A grades in every subject meaning they share 132 A* and A grades between them.

There was also success for Wade Deacon pupil Jack Kinsella who picked up one A*, five As and four Bs.
