SUPPORTERS of a campaign to honour a Widnes war hero got together to launch an appeal to create a statue in his memory.
Coach hire company Anthony's Travel and Widnes Vikings have pledged their support towards funding a statue of a man who was awarded the Victoria Cross in WWI.
Sgt Thomas Mottershead was the only man from the town to be honoured with the award.
Anthony’s Travel, who provide the team coach for Widnes Vikings, joined Richard Munson and players James and Ted Chapelhow at the Select Security Stadium to support the campaign.
The 310 Widnes Air Cadets will also help the appeal by collecting funds at a home game.
