FIREFIGHTERS were called to two separate incidents in Runcorn and Widnes last night, Tuesday.

At around 8.30pm one fire engine arrived on the scene of a bin fire on Newburgh Close in Runcorn.

The crew used a hose reel jet to tackle the flames and it is thought the fire may have been started deliberately.

Firefighters have urged anyone with information about the incident to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Later in the evening at around 10.30pm a fire engine was called to Grizedale in Widnes after reports that a sofa had caught fire.

Firefighters used a hose reel jet to put out the flames and fortunately no casualties have been reported following the incident.

Fire engines from Runcorn were called to reports of another sofa fire in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday.

At around 1.15am two crews were on the scene on Sycamore Road in Runcorn where a fire had broken out involving rubbish behind a block of flats.

Firefighters discovered two sofas and a pile of waste in flames.

They used a hose reel jet to put out the fire before using a thermal imaging camera to check that there were no further signs of heat in the building.
