A FREE fun weekend is being held to celebrate the success of the butterfly house at Victoria Park in Widnes.

Dozens of butterflies including 20 different species will be fluttering around.

“The butterfly house is laying in supplies of some extra special chrysalis for a truly dazzling display,” said volunteer co-ordinator and professional wildlife ecologist Jeff Clarke.

“We will also be launching a ‘butterfly photoblast’ to encourage the public to participate in a photographic exposition of the butterflies.

“So bring along your cameras and smartphones to help record the fun and flighty frenzy of butterflies.”

Live musicians will be performing and crafts will be available from noon until 3pm on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31.

Guided wildlife walks will give people a chance to find out more about native butterflies.

Visitors can watch a special opening of the moth trap.

Photographs entered in the competition will be on display in September.

The butterfly house is run by volunteers and relies on donations for survival.

It will be open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from noon until 3.30pm until the end of September.
