STAFF from Widnes Fish Bar paid tribute to their much-loved boss by completing a tough 10k Delamere commando trail.

Greek Cypriot dad-of-three Paul Pavlou, 62, from Farnworth, died suddenly in January last year after running the Lower House Lane chip shop for more than 40 years.

Employees joined their friends to tackle the gruelling course on July 17.

Caked in mud, the intrepid team trekked through swamps, climbed walls and slogged their way through countless obstacles.

With the generous support of loyal customers, their test of endurance has raised more than £1,000 for the British Heart Foundation.

Paul’s daughter Gina Zapties, 40, from Farnworth, whose husband Sud runs the shop, said: “Staff came up with the idea themselves and have been training for months.

“It is a fantastic effort. We are absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity of all our customers.

“We would like to thank everyone who has helped to make this event such a success.”

Paul’s family has been moved by hundreds of tributes from all over the world since his death hailing him ‘a true gentleman with the nicest, warmest smile’.
