CHILDREN were inspired to write creatively in the first ever Widnes primary schools’ poetry festival.
Former teacher Paul Delaney, now a children’s author and poet, came up with the idea.
In a series of creative writing workshops, he worked with pupils from four schools.
Paul, who is also a professional organist and piano teacher, helped youngsters to develop their poetry writing and performance skills.
A final celebration was held at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Catholic Primary School on Clincton View.
“The event was a huge success,” said Paul, from Hough Green, who has published five books.
“Parents and teachers loved the whole process especially the celebration evening.
“I’m sure we’ll repeat it next year hopefully with a few more schools on board.”
Holy Family pupil Daisy Shaw won first prize with her poem called Time.
Paul publishes his new poetry book My Favourite Trainers in September.
