CHILDREN at a Runcorn school welcomed a special visitor before they started their lessons on Friday.

Liverpool Wavertree MP Luciana Berger visited All Saints CE Primary School on Church Street to see how they run their Magic Breakfast club.

Pupils have been served free bagels, porridge, cereal and fresh orange juice since the club started in November, 2014.

The 35-year-old politician has pledged that every primary school will have a breakfast club if she becomes metro mayor.

She vowed to ensure that ‘no child will go hungry’ as she hopes to become the Labour candidate for Liverpool City Region Mayor, which covers Halton, Wirral, St Helens, Sefton, Knowsley and Liverpool.

“There’s plenty of evidence that if a child has a decent breakfast, they can concentrate, they learn more and do better at school,” said Ms Berger.

“Across our region, 72,100 children live in poverty and are at risk of going to school hungry.

“I will work with businesses, charities and schools to create a region wide breakfast and holiday club so that every child gets the best start in life.”
