HALTON secured an historic £900 million devolution deal with Liverpool city region in November.

Decision making on employment and skills, housing and planning, transport, innovation, business growth and support, energy, culture and finance have been made a priority and will be made locally rather than in Whitehall.

Halton Council leader Cllr Rob Polhill joined the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority with council leaders from St Helens, Liverpool, Sefton, Knowsley and Wirral in April 2014.

They have invested £150 million in 14 transport improvement schemes and funded various projects to promote economic growth, learning and new housing.

Voters will elect a Liverpool city region Mayor in May 2017 who will take on a raft of new powers from Westminster.

A Liverpool city region spokesman said: “In order for devolution to happen we need to review the functions and governance arrangements of the Liverpool city region combined local authority and set out the specific powers to be devolved from government to the combined authority and directly elected Mayor in a scheme.

“This review and scheme has now been published but key to this process is seeking the views of people who live or work in the Liverpool city region.”

Halton residents are invited to provide feedback on an online survey available at liverpoolcityregion-ca.gov.uk.

A summary of the authority’s function, what powers will be devolved and how the authority plans to manage them is explained on this website.

The closing date for feedback is Friday, August 5.

The findings of this review will be presented to the Secretary of State for communities and local government, Greg Clarke.

He will then consider approving a Liverpool City region order which enables the powers and resources for the directly elected Mayor and combined authority to be devolved by government.
