CHESHIRE Police has welcomed its first apprentices.

Thirteen young people have spent their first week exploring different areas from the dog unit and custody suites to the tactical training centre and firearms department.

Chief Constable Simon Byrne said: “The apprenticeship scheme is all about innovation and encouraging fresh faces to join the organisation.

“It is an opportunity for young people with creative innovative ideas to come in and help shape the future of policing.

“There is so much opportunity for change and growth within the constabulary and one of these apprentices might have the game changing idea that will really help improve what we do.”

The apprentices have been placed in a variety of roles throughout the constabulary headquarters and in the Police and Crime Commissioner’s office.

The scheme offers the apprentices a business and administration qualification and the experience of working in a fast paced, innovative and successful police force.

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane said: “I’m pleased to see the Constabulary supporting young people and giving them the opportunity to train and begin their careers in the police service.

“Opportunities range from working in IT and the solicitors office to my office.

“I wish them luck with their new roles and their future with the Constabulary.”
