CHILDREN have learnt how to plant flowers through a community gardening project.
Pupils aged eight and nine from Murdishaw Primary School teamed up with students at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy to work together on a new project.
Over the past year the secondary students have been involved in a scheme certified by V · INSPIRED, the UK’s leading youth volunteering charity.
Students taught the primary pupils how to create and nurture flower beds.
The children then donated potted plants to residents.
Project organiser Mr A Watkins, head of humanities, said: “Students threw themselves wholeheartedly into teaching the primary pupils who had a really fun time and learnt a lot.
“The enjoyment was evident on their faces as was the delight of the members in the local community who received the floral gifts.
“This made everyone who took part in the project feel very proud.”
