A RUNCORN mum who devoted her time to help people fight poverty has died suddenly.

Michelle Bridge died on May 16, leaving a 25-year-old son Owen.

Her family has now launched an appeal to help raise £1,500 towards the cost of her funeral.

Michelle, 43, from Murdishaw, always put everyone before herself as she helped residents tackle benefits issues doing paperwork from her home.

In 2013 she organised a protest against bedroom tax, because she felt vulnerable people were being victimised.

More than 100 tenants joined her to mount a mass rally outside Runcorn Town Hall.

Her nephew Louis Bridge, 20, said: “She was very supportive of people in the community.

“She even travelled to London to lobby the Government. She was affected by this herself but she always wanted to help other people.”

Her family has been inundated with support from people all over the country.

So far, £1,343 has been raised.

Former Norton Priory pupil Michelle worked part-time at Iceland in Runcorn Shopping centre and was always on hand to help anyone facing poverty.

“She made a difference absolutely,” said Louis.

“We are all very proud of her. She just liked helping people.”

“We have received a lot of support to our appeal.

“We asked for £1,500 but the funeral will cost £5,000. The family has asked for donations instead of flowers.”

The Labour constituencies Michelle supported have donated £250.

A spokesman for Weaver Vale Constituency Labour Party said: “RIP Michelle. Your efforts to stop others from suffering are always remembered.”

Michelle’s funeral will be held at 2.20pm in Walton Lea Crematorium on Tuesday, May 31.

Her family has asked for donations instead of flowers.

A reception will be held afterwards at The Tricorn on Stonebarn Lane, Palacefields.

“Everyone is welcome,” added Louis. “We hope people will attend both.”
