DETECTIVES want to speak to a man who may hold vital clues to a serious assault in Runcorn old town.

A 32-year-old man from Runcorn was found unconscious in the middle of St Johns Road at approximately 2am on Sunday, May 1.

Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Ian Whiley said: “As part of our investigation I am looking to speak to a man who was seen to be speaking to another man in the area at around the time the incident occurred.

“According to a witness, the man was seen on the corner of St Thomas Street and Mersey Road at approximately 2am in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“I am keen to speak to him as part of this investigation as he may have vital information which could assist with our enquiries.”

Jack Cartwight, 26, of North Road, St Helens, has been charged with attempted murder in relation to the incident.

He was remanded in custody and set to appear at Chester Crown Court on May 27.

The victim currently remains in a critical condition in Whiston Hospital.
