VOTERS in Runcorn and Widnes go to the polls on today in two elections.

Twenty seats are up for grabs in Halton Council’s local election as one third of the council stands down.

Residents are also being invited to choose Cheshire’s next Police and Crime Commissioner.

Cheshire candidates include John Dwyer (Con) from Nantwich, David Keane (Lab) from Warrington, Neil Lewis (Lib Dem) from Chester and Jonathan Starkey (UKIP) from Ellesmere Port.

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm.

In the local election, 52 candidates are vying for 20 seats.

Broadheath in Widnes is the only seat where Labour’s Clr Tony McDermott is unopposed.

Everywhere else, the seats are being contested.
