THE husband of a courageous Runcorn mum who lost her battle with cancer is mounting his third big charity challenge for Halton Haven.

Nick Vaughan has raised more than £15,000 in memory of his late wife Roz, 57, who died at the hospice in 2014.

Mum-of-three Roz discovered she had lung cancer three months after having a kidney tumour removed.

A team manager at the 02 call centre in Preston Brook, this brave woman nicknamed her tumour ‘cling on’ and blogged funny poems about her surgery.

She never gave up hope and her incredible zest for life won her the Merseyside Inspirational Woman of the Year Award.

Nick is doing a 24-hour sponsored bike ride at Tesco Extra in Widnes next Friday, May 13, and has organised a band, piper and a magician.

“The hospice is very close to my heart,” said Nick, 54, of Heywood Crescent.

“I now try to do everything that I can to raise funds for them as well as training to become a family support listener.

“I want to make sure that others in my position receive the care and support that I have.

“Raising money through big events really helps to make more people aware of the amazing work that Halton Haven provides.”

Nick competed two skipathons over the past two years.

Eleanor Smith, Halton Haven community fundraiser, said: “Supporters like Nick are invaluable to the hospice.

“He does whatever he can to help us, coming up with new fundraising ideas and making them bigger and better each year to ensure we stay open.

“We want to say a huge thank you for all of his fundraising efforts.”
