A WIDNES schoolgirl with an extraordinary operatic voice is on the road to stardom after wowing judges on ITV's Britain's Got Talent this evening.

Beau Dermott, from Cronton, performed Defying Gravity, the signature song from the hit musical Wicked and is straight through to the live finals after judge Amanda Holden pressed the golden buzzer.

But her talents are no surprise to Runcorn and Widnes World readers as former Cronton CE primary School pupil Beau is a previous Halton's Got Talent and Warrington's Got Talent winner.

The 12-year-old is due to perform a duet with tenor Russell Watson at Preston Guild Hall in May as her dream of becoming a professional singer inches ever closer.

She won Halton’s Got Talent in July and came fifth out of 9,000 in the national final of Teenstar, a nationwide singing competition in the same week.

Speaking after that competition her dad, Ian, of Linacre Lane, Cronton, said: “The judges said she could give Kerry Ellis a run for her money in the West End show.

“She does get nervous before she goes on stage but once she is on, she just blows everyone away.”

Beau now studies at The Hammond performing arts school in Chester.

Her incredible big voice was only discovered when she was eight.

Ian said: “One day she sang Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

“We were amazed. She is a normal little girl but she has a powerful voice.

“She is doing really well at school and getting plenty of practice.

“They take her everywhere to perform.”

Speaking before her Britain's Got Talent appearance said she was really nervous but looking forward to giving a good performance.

She received a standing ovation from Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden.

Simon said: "We were not expecting that. I like the way you came up here and just mugged all of us, like 'yeh I'm really nervous'. But that's how you do it."

Alesha said: "You are ready to be on stage, you were fantastic. You really have just got it."

David joked: "Everyone else might as well just go home! It was incredible."

Amanda, who pressed the golden buzzer for the first time this series, entitling Beau to skip the next stage of the auditions and go through to the live shows, added: "Oh Beau, I cannot believe you're only 12. That is one of the most difficult songs I think to sing and you just sold it to us. I'm absolutely thrilled. Congratulations and well done."
