A CENTURY-OLD Widnes church now has new worshippers.

The New Life Christian Centre has set up home in Halebank church, which served as a Methodist church for more than 100 years.

The group, part of the Elim Pentecostal Church, met at the Hillcrest Hotel for 15 years as Farnworth Christian Fellowship.

Pastor Rob Case, from Farnworth, a minister for 10 years, said: “We hope to become an integral part of the local community.

“Our services are quite lively. We are an evangelical and Pentecostal church.”

The 55-year-old, who has four children, is a trustee of Widnes Foodbank.

The church runs a kids club every Friday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and is teaming up with St Mary’s Church in Hale Village to launch a ‘messy church’.

The building was officially opened by Rev Kevin Peat, the regional superintendent of the Elim Pentecostal Church.

The Mayor of Halton Cllr Ellen Cargill and her consort Cllr Dave Cargill joined other church leaders for a special celebration.

The NHS operates an access centre at the church three times a week.
