STAFF at a Runcorn Co-op have been working behind the scenes to support the community.

Employees at the store in Balfour Street often donate bingo and raffle prizes to old folks’ homes and voluntary groups.

When they heard that children at Victoria Road Primary School were holding a Valentine’s disco, they offered to provide all the refreshments.

Staff turned up with boxes of crisps, sweets and juice.

Jane Higgins, the store’s community champion said: “We’ve always been part of the community and help out whenever we can.

“We’ve never made a big deal of it but we like to reach out.

“This is a lovely area. We have a lot of regular customers and we are all made to feel really valued.

“This is our chance to give something back.”

Staff are currently raising money for the Red Cross to help combat loneliness.

Any community groups seeking support are welcome can contact Jane at the Balfour Road store.
