ARMED robbers threatened staff at a Widnes shop in a terrorising raid.

Two men brandishing a hammer walked into the Co-op store in Liverpool Road, Hough Green at around 10.30pm on Wednesday.

One of the offenders jumped over the counter and forced open the till whilst the second threatened members of staff to prevent them reaching his accomplice.

Both men then left the store with a quantity of cash, heading down Liverpool Road in the direction of Crawford Avenue.

Officers from Widnes Local Policing Team today appealed for witnesses.

The first offender is described as a man, of stocky build. He was wearing a blue Berghaus jacket with red on inside of hood, a black balaclava, gloves and a dark tracksuit.

The second offender is described as a man, of medium build, dressed all in black. He wore a grey hoody with his hood pulled up and a scarf over his face just showing his eyes.
