STAFF at a Halton housing association have smashed their £60,000 target for charity in just 16 months.

Riverside vowed to reach their goal for Cancer Research UK over two years in September 2014.

With eight months to go, they are confident they can raise much more money.

Lisa Connor, fundraising manager at Riverside, said: “Cancer affects all our lives and we’re keen to help Cancer Research UK move us a bit closer to a world without cancer.

“Our staff have a strong track record of getting stuck into fundraising activities from cake sales, naked calendars and barbecues to sponsored diets and running challenges.”

Riverside home ownership sales and new business co-ordinator Catherine Corkish took part in the shine night walk last year.

She was joined by her partner and friends in memory of a relative who lost her battle with oesophageal cancer in April last year.

They completed the 26.2 mile walk around London’s famous landmarks in just over 10 hours.

Their efforts raised £1,520.

Cancer Research UK receives no government funding for vital research and relies on donations.

Stephanie Dagger, fundraising manager at Cancer Research UK, said: “We want to transform the outlook for cancer patients so that within 20 years three in four people survive their cancer.

“We would like to thank the staff at Riverside for their fantastic efforts, helping us to save many more lives.”
