Two Runcorn head teachers were invited to Downing Street to help education chiefs enable more children from poor and ethnic minority backgrounds to reach higher education.

Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy executive principal John Rigby and principal Mark Wyss met with the Prime Minister and Government leaders for a round table discussion.

Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Sajid Javid led the debate to encourage universities, schools and charities to work together to increase opportunities for disadvantaged children.

In the meeting last Monday, Prime Minister David Cameron singled out the ‘phenomenal successes’ of schools like OBA in Murdishaw which go the extra mile to ensure that as many students as possible achieve results above the national average, regardless of their background.

He commented on how such schools can transform the life chances of students and their families.

Mr Cameron recently accused Oxford University of ‘not doing enough to attract talent from across the country’.

John Rigby, executive principal at OBA said: “We were very proud to hear the Prime Minister praise the achievements of our students at such a high profile meeting.

“Mr Cameron visited OBA last summer to meet some of our amazing students at work and when he was there he also heard about the many university successes of our former sixth formers.

“It was an honour for us to attend and an even greater honour for all the hard work of our students, staff and parents to be acknowledged.”
