CONSUMER champion Which? has ranked Halton as the best area in England for carers to seek information.

In a survey, the watchdog found that carers could easily to find out the details, advice and support they need.

Halton Cllr Marie Wright, board member for health and wellbeing, said: "This is great news and shows that the ways we make information known to carers is working.

"However, we are not resting on our laurels and will continue to look at ways to make our services more accessible and visible."

Halton Council has pooled money with NHS Halton Clinical Commissioning Group to provide services for carers.

It jointly commissions Halton Carers Centre to identify new carers and provide information, advice and support to more than 5,000 young and adult carers across Runcorn and Widnes.

An average of 100 unpaid carers are identified every month in Halton through increased carer awareness following regular publicity campaigns.

The council has awarded grants to community groups which provide support and activities for carers.
