WORK has started on a £14 million development to build 175 new homes and revitalise derelict land in Widnes.

A former industrial site in Tan House Lane is being transformed into residential properties for couples and families to buy and rent.

Halton Housing Trust has teamed up with Russell Homes to embark on its largest ever development.

The first two and three bedroom homes will be ready in the summer and the project will be completed by summer 2017.

Nicky Harris, trust development manager said: “We are excited to have started work on this development and delighted to further invest in the area around Tan House Lane.

“We selected Russell Homes as development partner for the scheme as we were very impressed with their previous work, the experience they bring and their approach to this project.”

It follows a similar regeneration project in neighbouring Page Lane where a brownfield site has been brought to life with new homes, green open spaces and a community playground.

Andrew Russell, director of Russell Homes, said: “This investment by Halton Housing Trust has enabled a derelict site to be redeveloped as much needed housing and community space.

“The 175 new homes have been designed to provide a range of options for buyers and renters from spacious family houses and comfortable properties for downsizers to great starter homes for those wanting to get on the property ladder for the first time.

“The development revitalises this part of the borough and is providing work for local labour and suppliers throughout the build and we are proud to be part of the project”
