SHOPPERS are warned to expect heavy traffic as ‘black Friday’ approaches.

Halton drivers are urged to be patient and behave sensibly as Cheshire Constabulary anticipates an unusually high volume of traffic during this weekend.

Historically, this rush to the shops has caused traffic problems.

Extra patrols will be deployed as a deluge of bargain hunters are expected to hit the roads.

Cheshire Police are asking motorists to consider their plans for Friday, Saturday and Sunday and to vary their shopping times to make these days as stress-free as possible for all concerned.

Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port can experience high levels of traffic onto and off the M53 and the surrounding roads on a normal day.

Additional traffic officers will help manage any situations as they arise to ease congestion.

Chief Inspector Giles Orton said: “Wherever you decide to shop this weekend you are reminded to behave rationally and with dignity.

“We recognise the excitement this weekend can generate and we would ask anyone coming to the area over the weekend to follow us on Twitter (@PoliceEPort) for the latest information.

“Don’t let your let your black Friday turn into a blue Christmas.”
