MORRISONS is celebrating its 20th birthday in Widnes with a £1 million makeover.
Eight employees who have worked at the Green Oaks store since it opened in 1995 cut a ribbon to mark the new look.
Morrisons asked customers what changes they wanted and they requested for more space and extra facilities.
The supermarket now has wider aisles and a new layout.
All the fresh food departments, including the butchers and delicatessen have been upgraded.
The café has been modernised with soft seats and free Wi-Fi.
There’s a fresh hot food takeaway at the entrance with pizza, soup, sandwiches, baked potatoes and freshly ground coffee.
A bigger children’s clothing range has been introduced and there will soon be a new dry cleaning service.
Revolving doors at the entrance have been replaced with sliding doors so families with trolleys, prams and wheelchairs can get in more easily.
Customer toilets will also be refurbished.
Improvements are also carried out in the car park and petrol station.
Store general manager Neil McCarthy said: “For 20 years many people in Widnes have been loyal customers and we want to thank them by giving them what looks like a brand new supermarket.
“We have listened very carefully to the ideas of our customers and staff and that has helped us. It really is their store.”
Staff who have worked at the store since day one include Danny Cowan, Linda Reynolds, Linda Woods, Jayne Burnett, Sian Crank, Louise Davenport, Jayne Hughes and Lisa Kelly.
