A WIDNES woman who has inspired mums to set up their own businesses has been shortlisted for a prestigious national award.

Mum-of-two Sharon Jardine suffered a heart attack when she was only 44.

She took redundancy in 2011 and founded Pitter Patter Tiny Feet Knitting Emporium and a coaching and training business.

She is now in the final for a BizMums creative business award 2015.

The winner will be announced on October 17.

Sharon, aged 49, of Old Upton Lane, said: “I was quite choked when I found out. It’s a lovely surprise.

“I had my heart operation and haven’t looked back.

“It was the best move I ever made but the hardest and most challenging thing I have ever done in my life.”

Sharon worked as a community development and youth worker in Liverpool for 20 years.

She said: “I have always been an avid crafter and knitter.

“I have been working with people who have had enough of the rat race and want to set up their own business.

“I went from the board room to the market place. I love working with people.”

Sharon works with youth and charity groups and is now blending her two businesses together.

She said: “There is a great resurgence of craft.

“I have helped to build up the confidence and self esteem of mums with young families.

“It has grown phenomenally.

“I know there is a high rate of start-up businesses floundering but if you have passion and joy in making your products you will find a way through.”

Originally from Northern Ireland, Sharon moved to Farnworth 15 years ago.

She added: “I’d love to do more in Widnes.

“Knitting is very therapeutic.

“I love to see people taking up new skills and setting up and running their own crafting businesses.

“This award is very humbling but so much appreciated as it is a great validation and recognition of my work.”
