A FAMILY assembly was held at a Runcorn school to announce the newly elected head boy and girl.

Halton MP Derek Twigg was invited to Astmoor Primary School to give 10-year-olds Joe Stevenson and Megan Wilson their badges.

The pair showed him round the school introducing him to staff and pupils.

Children then quizzed Mr Twigg about his job.

Head teacher Louisa Aldridge said: “There was a very lively question and answer session in our year five and six class.

“They asked Mr Twigg what he was like at school.

“They wanted to know if he had met David Cameron and what he thought of him.

“They asked him if he thought Jeremy Corbyn is too old to be the Labour leader.”

Mr Twigg said: “They had a fantastic assembly which was a pleasure to be at.

“I was very impressed by the enthusiasm of both teachers and pupils.

“Pupils asked me about a range of issues particularly about my work as an MP.

“All the questions were very good.”
