A RECORD crowd of 70,000 came to the north west vintage rally in Widnes at the weekend.

Many visitors travelled back in time and arrived on a free vintage shuttle bus.

More than 300 lovingly maintained and restored classic vehicles were on display around a Spitfire Mark 11 replica.

A high flying zip wire, mobile climbing wall, traditional fairground, charity and trade stalls and children’s entertainer were among the attractions.

Community circus performers offered free tuition to pass on their skills.

There were displays by dogs, birds of prey and model boats.

Halton’s Got Talent winner Beau Dermott joined singers and dancers to stage live performances.

Show sponsors Halton Clinical Commissioning Group provided patient information and advice.

Halton Cllr Eddie Jones, board member for events, said: “The vintage rally showed everything that is good about our community.

“The atmosphere is always so pleasant and good humoured.

“It’s fantastic to see the park so full of people of all ages enjoying themselves, including many families.”

He said the positive feedback and record attendance shows how much people appreciate this annual spectacle.

He added: “I’d like to say a big thank you to all the Halton Council staff who worked so hard on the event.”
