CHILDREN are supporting a shoe appeal to help raise funds for Halton Haven Hospice.

Pupils at Moorfield Primary School filled six giant bags with old shoes, trainers, boots and wellies.

The hospice raised £1,000 last year from a trial and now hopes to turn more unwanted shoes into cash.

Hospice community fundraiser Eleanor Smith said: “This appeal is a great way for us to work with the community, particularly schools.”

The school council at Moorfield in Widnes organised the collection.

Head teacher Andy Williams said: “Pupils and families at Moorfield are always ready to play their part helping and serving others, in particular those less fortunate.

“The shoe appeal is just another example of everyone’s kind heartedness.

“Our school council would like to challenge other schools in Widnes to beat our shoe collection of six large bags of old and unwanted shoes.”

The hospice is appealing to schools, businesses, shops, offices, factories and churches to support their appeal.
